A 19th Century Neo- Classical Mahogany Library Chair

Buttoned upholstered back with carved acanthus to scroll arms with acanthus carving that flank the buttoned leather seat. Turned flutted front legs with brass cups and castors with swept legs and brass castors to at the back.

English, 1850-70.

H:117 W:66 D:66 CM (Seat Height 59 cm)

H:46 W:25.9 D:25.9 INCHES (Seat Height 23.2 inches).

From and original design published in 1840 by Thomas King, 17 Gate Street, Spitalfields, London.

Thomas King produced some 15 pattern books between 1800-1851 and was also furniture maker so this chair perhaps was made by him in his workshop or by another chair maker using his design. His catalogues were distributed far and wide including America & Ireland.
